hungry in oakland
note- this page is pending updates. i don't live in california anymore, but i haven't eaten at enough places in the new zip code to build a worthwhile lunch generator. give it a week or two and i'll post something new.
So it's 11:54 AM on Friday September 5, and
you're hungry. Unfortunately your blood sugar has dropped to such a low concentration
that you get tired just thinking about STANDING up and WALKING outside to get some
food. You'll eat anything, but your brain isn't functioning well
enough to figure out where to find sustenance... where to go? lunch knows.
Or try the second scenario- this time you're engaged in heated debate. I feel like
going to Ikea for swedish meatballs, you want Mandarin, but we don't have time for either. How do we
compromise? lunch knows.
Or maybe it's the offer- she says, "Have lunch with me. Remember that
cute little place we went
last week? The one with the pasta? Do you want to go there again...?"
Well, do you? There's something nagging at the back of your mind... what
was it that is making you think twice? You might not remember, but
lunch knows.
How does it work? Simple! Whenever you load this page, lunch
looks in the archive, and returns a possible lunch location. If you
don't like how that one looks, just hit reload. If you want to look
inside to see what makes it tick, you can look at a text version of the
script by clicking this link, and
a text version
of the lunch archive by clicking this
one.

comments :Another link in the Max's Diner/Deli/Bakery chain. This one is pretty good: full restaurant, sit-down service, everything from froo-froo salads and pink lemonade to steak and baked potatos, with deli sandwiches and daily specials in between. The chinese chicken salad is two whole deep-fried KFC style boneless chicken breasts on top of a HUUUUUGE pile of lettuce and crunchy chow mein noodles; the Reuben is at least 4 inches tall and the bread isn't even 1/4 of the height. The patio fills up by 11:50 on nice days, so get here early if you want to sit outside. Portions are large, service is good, but it's easy to spend $15 for lunch when you add in the tip.
