the shumwedding

when we invited a bunch of folks to go to a salsa dance lesson with us, we had no idea that they would be the only two to show up. To Jen's credit, she was radiant that night when she walked in 20 minutes late. I should have known from the look on Mike's face that it was as good as done that night... but I had to find out from someone else two months later that they'd been going out dancing without us. The really ironic thing is that Peggy had just sworn off trying to set up our friends because her last two attempts just hadn't worked out.

it was a gorgeous wedding, as anyone who was lucky enough to attend will surely tell you. Carmel-by-the-sea is sunny and warm in March, and we got there just in time to see the bride walk in.

We spent that morning at the aquarium in Monterey, where we saw the only great white shark that has ever eaten while in captivity. They had the shark in the largest tank there, with the yellowtail tuna and sea turtles and other large deep-water fish. It was hard to watch them all swim around and not think of sushi. since that visit, they had to release her, becuase she was eating the other fish in her tank in graphic and expensive ways-- something I can understand. Watching the shark inspired mattie to try to eat that jellyfish.
