november 2009
november 24 2009 7:38 pst ahhh those few moments of stillness in the morning before the baby wakes up...
november 16 2009 22:31 pst the wind tonight is trying to take the roof off the house. i threw a CEL today driving to the post office... expecting the worst i got the scanner out and it said i've been having misfires in a couple of cylinders. hooray for ethanol in my gasoline- guess i'm going to have to start buying premium again now that it's cold outside. i cleaned out my k&n air filter today too- i had forgotten what a pain in the ass it was to get that filter box on and off without breaking something important in the process. but i am starting to get wiser about it- this time i wore gloves, so i managed to finish the job without smashing up my hands too badly. cleared the trouble codes and put it all back together- i'll go buy some 100-octane gas tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.
november 14 2009 17:15 pst every time he gets a little bit taller, we find ourselves re-arranging furniture to try to eliminate those spots where he can suddenly pull something deadly down on top of himself. i'm assuming he'll get over this by the time he's twelve or fourteen years old.
november 13 2009 12:37 pst today is like the sixth day in a row that it has been raining. it's cold and wet and bleah. but at least it's snowing in the mountains...
november 8 2009 22:25 pst so, in what can only be described as "just desserts," he didn't nap at all yesterday. I took the MPRE ethics exam from 9 am until about noon - the test itself only takes 2 hours, but the setup and the reading of instructions and filling out name bubbles etc. takes a good 20 minutes, and we started a bit late anyhow, so by the time I was back at my car it was 11:30 and... little d had fallen asleep on the way to the store in P's car, but then he woke up. and he stayed up. and didn't sleep again until much much much later, like 7 at night. we were all sort of shell-shocked by the experience.
on friday, we had dinner with paul and joan at red robin. little d loved the dogs. new photos posted on flickr and over to the right.
november 6 2009 14:20 pst ahhh, naptime.
november 6 2009 7:35 pst still job-hunting. and it's almost a full-time job! i have all the basic info compiled in the standard packaging- resume, 10-year work history, a couple of different cover letters. but somehow all of the really interesting jobs have their own application forms, which all take time to finish.
all of the interesting *government* jobs are an entirely different story- they want the resume and a cover letter and a work history, sure. but they also tend to want to see 3 or 4 pages of narrative response to open-ended questions about leadership, communication, team-building, challenges you've faced, etc. when i saw the first of these, i got all bent out of shape about it- indignant really. i mean, i have two degrees and nine years of corporate work experience, where do they get off asking me about my technique for facilitating meetings?
now i just take it in stride. but the questions are always different, which means it's another hour or two of writing to put together each application... and then six weeks of waiting before they get back to me. sometimes i can't believe how fortunate i was during interviews for those first two jobs, where they told me that they wanted to hire me before i even left the office.
little d keeps making new and interesting sounds this week- lots of extended vowels and hard "p" and "g" and "k" noises. he's got "kitty!" pretty much down. otherwise it's like he's trying to yodel. if i get a minute this afternoon i'll upload some new video we shot at the park yesterday. it's supposed to rain all day today, so maybe we'll be able to stage some good indoor photos too.
