november 2008

november 28 2008 23:38 pst today we did the short hike through the lava cast forest. i think once will probably be enough for me, although we might have to come back once little d is old enough to remember it. i was more impressed by the big obsidian flow that we saw last summer.

november 27 2008 13:13 pst a pair of amazon.com links, in honor of turkey day today and black friday tomorrow. this is pretty cool: add any online item to your amazon.com wishlist. and this page helps you find low-priced items to push your order above the $25 'free super saver shipping' threshold.

november 26 2008 11:41 pst we're packing up to take our little turkey to sunriver. should be an interesting trip. it's not really cold enough for there to be much snow, so i might just leave the boards here. goodness knows i have enough to keep me busy, with bankruptcy exam coming up next wednesday.

november 19 2008 18:32 pst bad pizza is a crime against humanity. good pizza is worth waiting for. at least, it's worth waiting five or ten minutes.

november 14 2008 22:39 pst yes, he really is looking at people and smiling now. it's pretty cool. and he's sleeping for longer blocks of time on a more regular basis, which is helpful for his parents' sanity. it seems like he can't wait to start talking.

p's sister is visiting for the next few days- her flight is set to land tomorrow afternoon, so we'll have another set of hands to help out again. which will be nice, becuase i have finals coming up the first week of december, just two weeks away.

november 5 2008 23:02 pst looks like the good guys won everywhere that matters except for california. i've been watching the polls at fivethirtyeight.com and i heard all of the shamefaced anecdotes from my obamican friends, but i was still unsure about the outcome... until they called ohio for obama. rumor has it that even my grandfather voted for obama this time- although grandpa spent a lot of time in chicago so maybe that explains it.

there are a lot of things that need fixing, and i realize that there are a lot of promises that will weigh on barack obama's shoulders over the next 18 months. when he's calculating priorities, i sincerely hope that single-payer healthcare comes out high on the list of things to do.

november 3 2008 10:27 pst oh, another thought for this morning: my new fav baby accessory is the baby bjorn. nothing quiets him down more quickly than strapping him to your chest and letting his little arms and legs hang out the sides... of course they sell lots of other junk, but the carrier is genius.

november 3 2008 10:12 pst did you remember to change your clocks? i suppose you probably did. we all enjoyed the extra hour of sleep, albeit not all at the same time. this week i have a ton of classes again, which means that little d and his mom will get to spend lots of quality time together.

when i set my class schedule up for this term, i had no concept of just how much more i would want to be at home with the kid instead of, e.g., in a classroom thinking about bankruptcy statutes. none of my classes are scheduled in the mornings, which makes for a fairly consistent monday / tuesday / thursday experience. however, i'm taking one class at the business school this term, and it's turning the rest of my life into a kind of serial disaster. the class itself is fine, but the project the class is organized around keeps demanding more and more of my time each week. this week i finally had to start pushing back hard and saying 'no' to some new committments.

the warning lights should have gone off for me when i got into the third week of law school classes, and i felt comfortably busy, and this business class hadn't yet kicked off. should have dropped one of my law school classes right then. oh well, lesson learned i guess, for what little good it will do me- it's far too late in the term for me to drop classes now without earning a black mark on my transcript. i keep telling myself that, all things considered, as long as i end up with b's or better i'll be happy this time around.

the google text ads on the right side of this page should start to reappear at some point in the next week or two. please let me know if they are offensive or distracting- since i only have like five people reading this page on a regular basis, if one of you complains i'll probably just get rid of them.
