may 2010

may 4 2010 23:18 pdt it's been an exciting few weeks. i started a new job with the city, and i picked up a couple of pro-bono clients, and that neighborhood house project actually had some legs, and oh by the way i'm still doing some legal research projects on the side, and this week we all took turns getting the deadly 24-hour virus.

since the virus is the most exciting bit, i'll just keep myself to that. little d got super-duper sick on friday night. he was bazooka-puking all over the place, from roughly 1 am right through six or seven in the morning. the first two episodes were the worst, but he kept on waking up to get sick again every 45 minutes or so. he wasn't feverish, and he went right back to sleep afterwards, but wow was he unhappy in between. p and i took turns sleeping next to him on the floor in the hallway, right next to the bathroom so that when he woke up to have another go at the dry-heaves, we'd be that much closer to the linoleum.

and then, thank god, he got over it. saturday he seemed fine, if just a bit subdued. so we spent all day saturday trying to catch up on sleep and do laundry to clean up after the madness from the night before. and at about 8 pm on saturday, my parents landed at pdx, so i drove up to the airport to get them.

sunday was great. we woke up lateish, p and i went down to the outlet mall to pick up some work-appropriate clothing, and then we went off to paul and joan's house for a boat ride and dinner. fun times were had by all etc etc.

sunday night, around 1 am, i woke up with crazy stomach cramps. spent the next four or five hours alternately writhing in bed and sitting on the pot. couldn't stand up when seven am monday morning rolled around. p woke up sick too. i had planned to take the day off work, p had to call it in and stay home. i don't think mom and dad really understood how miserable we were- but of course, by four or five pm, mom was coming down with it too. p and i took turns sleeping it off all day long. by five pm, mom was curled up in the fetal position with blankets pulled up over her head and she didn't come out the rest of the night. and by then, i was starting to feel better.

tuesday, dad woke up with it. i was better, and p was on the mend. so p and i both went to work, we dropped d off at daycare, and mom and dad stayed home and slept off the bug.

with any luck, everyone will wake up happy and healthy tomorrow and we can actually have a bit of fun before the grandparents have to go home...
